Bone marrow transplant - Male into female? (Feb/10/2010 )

Hi Everyone,

I would like to do a bone marrow transplant experiment. However, I only have access to male donors and my recipients will be a mixed population of both males and females. I was once told that using male bone marrow to reconstitute a female mouse wouldn't work because of the Y chromosome. The recipients will be lethally irradiated prior to the transplant, so I don't understand why this would be an issue. Is this really the case? (I should also mention that the mice are congenic.)

Thanks!
