how to prepapre 2mM 8-Hydroxyquinoline for root tip treatment - it's insoluble in ethonal? (Jan/21/2010 )

Dear all,
I am going to do FISH in some day, the protocol for which includes preparing 2mM 8-Hydroxyquinoline to treat soybean root tips. However, 8-Hydroxyquinoline is water insoluble, neither I found it completely disovled in ethonal at 2mM at room temp. could anyone experienced tell me how to prepare 2mM 8-Hydroxyquinoline correctly?
Many many thanks in advance.

according to the merck index (9th edition), 8-hydroxyquinoline is freely soluble in alcohol, acetone, chloroform, benzene, and aqueous mineral acids.

it should have dissolved in ethanol. did you use absolute or diluted ethanol?

Hi friend,
I used absolute ethanol. Now I doubt whether the problems is the purity of 8-hydroxyquinoline I used? your opinion?
Thanks deeply.

it could be impure preparation. what does the analysis sheet say?

how old is the compound? maybe some moisture got in and caused it to cake? that would make it difficult to dissolve.
