What's the best electronic pipette (Precision) - (Jan/15/2010 )
I wanted to buy an electronic pipette for QPCR, precision is probably most important.
But, what is the best pipette to get out there? Are they all the same? How about the viaflo one that looks like an ipod interface?
we have eppendorf in our lab...
as from my experience,
it is the BEST...

This is brand name 'research pro' right? I swear their website is not easy to navigate, they are not doing themselves any favors - but then they ARE eppendorf so they assume people will buy from them no matter how hard it is
Good deal if I trade in an old pipette. Still I'm leaning toward the viaflo one (I don't know why, I don't even have or like ipods)
it seems u are new to the pipettes world !
Eppendorf is a very well known company...
it offers equipments (from tubes to cyclers)
u can go and calibrate your own pipette,
search ur brand's site to see how the calibration is done..
good luck

?? All the pipettes (non electronic) we have are eppendorf. I didn't say I had never heard of eppendorf (in fact I implied the opposite), I said their website is horrible to navigate.
I thought all pipettes you can calibrate yourself if you want? I know the viaflo one you can calibrate, and because it's electric you can calibrate it at different amounts (it doesn't have to be linear like a manual pipette calibrated at 10ul may not be as accurate at 2 or 20ul).
oops !!
forgive me for this, but i were into calculations and seems i didn't concentrate
repeat my opologies...
in calibrating pipettes i thought that you can choose volumes say for ex. for the 10-100ul
10, 50, 100 ul volumes and take 3 readings for each volume and calculate the average
then compare..
but since it was my duty in the lab to calibrate eppendorf and gilson pipettes
it revealed that their protocols differ,,
one demands 10 readings the other only 3 ( can't remember which, who ! )
that's why i suggested you to look at the site ...
in which they'll provide the protocol along with a table for the accepted results for each volume ...
best wishes
