Stem cells, primary culture - Literature - What are some good papers to read to get started in this area? (Jan/15/2010 )

I have been put on a new project in the lab that involves the primary culture of tumor cells and stem cells.

What are some good papers, book chapters, journal articles, review articles that I should read to get acquainted with this area?

In particular I would like to learn about which stem cell media to use, what additives and growth factors to put in the media, antibiotics to use and stem cell markers to use to identify stem cells in the primary culture.

Thanks in advance,
Cathy

Shamless plug but Invitrogen has systems defined for stem cells - http://www.invitrogen.com/site/us/en/home/...l-Research.html and for primary cells - http://www.invitrogen.com/site/us/en/home/...ll_culture.html with pretty good info on how to passage and maintain them on the site.

If you need to get a hold of any of the R&D folk in either division I could probably put you in touch. Just send me a PM.

Thanks,

Jason

There are many good resources on the web from which you will get complete information about the stem cell research and its uses. I have searched on the search engine and have received many important articles which can help in stem cell research.

Hi!

I recently came across this article which I found very helpfull http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1742706110003570
(Vater,C. Kasten, P. and Stiehler,M. (2011). Culture media for the differentiation of mesenchymal stromal cells. Acta biomaterialia 7: 463-477)

And I also liked these two review articles http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2796.2009.02157.x/abstract
(Andersson, E.R. and Lendahl, U. (2009). Regenerative medicine: a 2009 overview. Journal of internal medicine 266: 303-310)

and

Good luck
