Storage for mammalian blood samples - (Nov/27/2009 )

I am currently doing postgraduate work concerning hybridisation levels and dection in the dingo (Canis lupus dingo) and I will be collecting some blood samples soon...
I was wondering how I should store these samples so the DNA will not degrade overtime.... most articles concerning canine genetics does not mention how blood samples were stored, and articles concerning mammalian blood suggests storage at -20 or -70C. But I thought that the blood cells would lyse when freezing.... any ideas on storage options??? (I plan on extracting DNA when I first collect them but I will require re-extraction for additional studies for the next few years)

If you want to store gDNA, the best plase is in the fridge. That way the ice wont shred it.
For cDNA -20ºC.
For live cells use 10% DMSO, 10-90% FCS (depending on the protocol) and freeze in -70ºC for up to a month or liquid N2 for longer.
