Phenol chloroform ratio during RNA isolation - (Nov/24/2009 )
what ratio of phenol: chloroform is used during RNA isolation? Searched in google and got different opinions...Few use 1:1 while others 5:1....which is appropriate and why? thanks for any suggestions

It all has to do with polarity and ionic strength.
Usually 1:1 ratio is used. When there is a need for one of the above reasons, you change the ratio.
