Difference between EDTA and HEDTA - (Oct/24/2009 )

What is difference between EDTA and HEDTA.???

-samita-

ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid
(2-Hydroxyethyl)ethylenediaminetriacetic acid

ya right.. and there is no apparant difference between the two apart from the fact that HEDTA should be easily soluble in water unlike EDTA because of the presence of hydroxyl groups!!!

and hedta is a triacetic acid whereas edta is a tetraacetic acid. this will lead to differing affinities for cations.

 ya right!!! i missed that.. but i saw many research articles which have used both the compounds and found that there was no apparant difference in their affinities!!!
