pH of Urea and Acrylamide solutions!!! - (Oct/24/2009 )
Hey Can anyone tell me what would be the tentative pH of a 5M Urea slution or a 30% Acrylamide solution!!!
Right now I am deprived of a pH probe and also not sure if the proble can be inserted into these solutions!!!

if they are not decomposed then they should be around neutral pH.
but, why? they are normally used with added buffers that will maintain the pH that you need.
you can get a decent approximation of the pH with pH paper (since you don't have a pH probe).

hey thanx!!!
i am actually using it for denaturing ief so its the gel component. I add no buffers in the gel solution "persay"

no need to add buffers for ief. urea will not affect the pH but will affect apparent pI.

ya no need and so i dont add!!! i know it will affect the pI. I am not using it for pI determination!!!
using it just for checking isoform distribution!!!
