bacterial infectious diseases - (Oct/04/2009 )

Dear colleagues,

are you aware of any database or list with bacteria that may be infectious
to human and the respective disease, or vise versa?

I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I know a few bacteria that are infectious but I am not aware of any database.
Francisella tularensis (Tularemia), Legionella pneumophila (Legionnaire's disease), Yersinia pestis (Plague), Mycobacteria (Tuberculosis), Bacillus anthracis (Anthrax) are some that I know. Besides these some common ones would be- Salmonella- Typhoid, MRSA etc.
Hope this helps.

Search for: "The Approved List of biological agents"

This should direct you to a document where bacteria (and other micro-organisms) are classified according to HG1-HG4.

Rather limited list. Also suggest you look at any manual if clinical microbiology, CDC website and MMWR in particular.
