gold view and sybr safe gel stain - any used gold view gel stain (Aug/29/2008 )

anyone tried the goldview stain. its new and dirt cheap compared to sybr safe and apparently the same. from sbs genetech in china but distribute in usa.

i tried it. it is not as good compared to sybr safe invitrogen using the exact same protocol.

it gives huge backgound.

i used the protocol as per the instructions.

has anyone else mentioned it compared to sybr safe. please let me know. we have to analyze hundreds of clone using a dye sybr safe or an optimized protocol for this stain. thanks tony

Try to use less amount of Goldview for casting the gel. Although the instruction said that the Goldview should be 10,000X diluted, I get a better result when used the 80,000X - 100,000X dilution (the background is lower than that of 10,000X dilution). In my experience, the sensitivity of Goldview is a little lower than EtBr to detect DNA, but a little higher than EtBr to detect RNA (The differences is no more than 2 fold).
