HEK 293 or 293T for lentivirus - (Jul/31/2006 )

Hi there

Does anyone know what the difference is in using HEK 293 cells vs 293T cells for lentiviral work?

And does anyone have a recipe for culture media for HEK 293 cells?

Thanks

293T has stable integration of the SV40 virus, expressing the large T antigen. They have higher energy needs than most other cell lines, and the standard media formulation can be found at the Invitrogen web site for their version of these cells.

Invitrogen recommends their cells 293FT for lentivirus. I compared 293T and 293FT's didnt find much of a difference in viral titres.

I use DMEM- 10%FBS, + L-GLn and 1% P/S for culturing 293's.

Thanx for the advice, will try it out and see how it goes!
