cyclodextrin - dissolving beta cyclodextrin (Mar/13/2009 )
Hai, i was recently was asked to work with beta-cyclodextrin to dissolve a compound as this compound does not dissolve in water, DMSO or tween 20. I
In the MSDS of beta-cyclodextrin, there is no mention on how it can be dissolved.
I have tried dissolving it in water, but it didn't work.
Has anyone used cyclodextrin before. Please suggest to me how to dissolve it?
Thanks

Beta-cyclodextrin is sparingly soluble in hot water but can be dissolved easily in 1M NaOH. Can you use the derivative hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HBC) which is soluble at > 50 mg/ml in water? HBC is extensively used to "solubilize" lipophilic drugs and has replaced cyclodextrin in many pharmaceutical processes.
Hope this helps.

Does cyclodextrin come out of solution if the NaOH is neutralized?

Thanks for the info. I will give this a try.
