Determining pI of a protein - (Aug/02/2012 )
Hi,
In previous publications I read when somebody is trying to characterize a protein they measure pI of the protein. Any idea why this pI value is important in biological aspect?
Thanks.

E.g. a protein can be precipitated at its pI.

Hi pDNA,
Thanks for the reply. In my lab we usually perform co-IP to precipitate the protein as in this method we do not destroy the other proteins linked with my interest of protein. do you think protein precipitation at its pI will be helpul any other way?

you can use isoelectric precipitation (precipitation at the pI of the protein) as a purification step.
