New to Basic Research - (Feb/23/2010 )
Hi folks,
I am a medical graduate student with a very little lab experience but lot of interest in participating in basic research. After convincing my employer i had been given time to develop my skills in less than one month at least those skills specific to his research.
My tasks are to master micro RNA assay using stem-loop RT-PCR (real-time) and to culture HepG2 cell and do some enzyme assays on them. So folks any suggestions on where to start reading and how to move forward (step-wise) will be greatly appreciated.

The fastest and most efficient way is to follow an experienced lab member. Ask him or her about what literature you shall read and learn the skills how he or she does. You must record everything when you follow him/her.
If you need to begin yourself, I advise you first find some reviews about what you do in NCBI pubmed database to know the background, then seach protocols to know what to do in detail. Try to follow other people to master some basic skills.
